Blogging 101

online-marketing-013For those of you who have never been blogging, here’s the basics. Blogging is the ability to use blogs as a means of communicating with your audience and to promote ideas, products, or services. It is a way for the online community to get their thoughts out in the open and allow everyone to freely express their opinion on whatever issue they feel is important. Anyone can blog, and this is definitely not a “men” thing to do.

Does that mean all women are going to blog? No, there are some blogging options that are more appropriate for the female gender, but these are usually geared towards business issues, lifestyle issues, or family and relationships issues. Most bloggers are doing it for the same reasons most women do it, to have an outlet to talk about something that is either embarrassing or just plain interesting.

If you’ve been considering creating your own blog, you will find a number of sites online that will give you tips on how to do so. These include WordPress and Blogger, as well as Squidoo and Blogster. After you get used to the concept, you’ll find that you’ll be able to start your own blog within minutes. These blog sites offer the tools to easily build your own blog pages as well.

The question for you, then, is what to blog about? Is it important that you write about the same things your husband is interested in? What about the topic of your cousin’s wedding, or a birthday of your friend’s little boy? Does blogging fit into the picture?

If you’re still not sure what kind of blogging option is right for you, there are some places online where you can get more information. There are websites specifically set up to help you create blogs to express your thoughts and feelings on various topics, and there are blogs that will help you find blogs that address your specific interests.

How many people may want to see your blog? It is a good idea to look into forums to see if there are others who would be interested in reading what you have to say. There are also forums specifically set up to allow your friends to view your blog as well.

If you decide to take your blogging seriously, remember that this is a long-term investment. Think about what type of blogging you may want to do in the future, and create a blog that is truly worth building and maintaining.
